Want to improve your padel game fast? Start with your serve. A consistent, well-placed serve gives you control of the point from the very first shot.

Basic Padel Serve Technique

The padel serve is underhand and must land diagonally in the opposite service box. Here’s how to get it right:

Grip Use a continental grip for maximum control and versatility.

Stance Stand behind the baseline, facing diagonally. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart with your non-dominant foot slightly forward.

Ball Toss Drop or gently toss the ball in front of you at waist height—keep it simple and controlled.

Contact Hit the ball at waist height or below using a smooth swing. Aim for the centre of the racket for accuracy.

Follow-Through Finish your swing towards your target and stay balanced, ready for the next shot.

5 Padel Serve Variations You Need to Know

1. Flat Serve Fast and direct with minimal spin—great for putting pressure on your opponent.

2. Slice Serve Add sidespin to curve the ball into the corners and pull your opponent wide.

3. Topspin Serve Creates a higher bounce, making returns more difficult.

4. Body Serve Aim at your opponent’s body to limit their reaction time.

5. Kick Serve A more advanced serve with spin that kicks up aggressively after the bounce.
